tuesday with elizabeth

I had such an amazing and relaxing Tuesday with Elizabeth who was in town from Australia. We started with lunch at The Smile and then did some window shopping. One of the highlights for me was stumbling upon Lee Bul's beautiful sculptures, pictured above, at Lehmann Maupin on Chrystie Street. I'm such a sucker for strong forms that incorporate wood and silver! You can see more images of the day on Elizabeth's blog.

Canned tuna shipped from Hawai'i; the parade we missed because we were stuffing ourselves with vegetarian dim sum; airing out some dirty laundry; Stumptown coffee; our makeshift bookshelf; amazingbeautiful books at work; why aren't there any apple bananas in New York; dessert at the Momofuku Milk Bar; I love my twin

For those of you in Hawai'i (are you out there??), I'll be selling my reclaimed hardware jewelry this First Friday at the Plaza Club from 5:30-8:30 PM!


50% of all my sales from this night will go towards the Hawai'i Foodbank, on behalf of Jill, my first donor of old hardware. There will also be student designs on display, live poetry and an open bar. Come say hiiiii!

And these blue gingham awesomenesses is from my friend Katie, who is selling vintage button earrings. I'm a total sucker for blue gingham (Dorothy!), so these babies are convincing me to take my 24/7 claw earrings off.

Also, my classmate Sara has amassed an awesome collection of vintage aloha wear for guys and girls that she is selling. I was really happy to sell my favorite shirt of hers to this guy who was waaay stoked on it. It was this pink chambray Liberty House shirt (Hawai'i department store that was bought by Macy's in 2001) with a sliver of aloha print and a little King Kamehameha embroidered on the chest. He even made his friend check out the fabric covered buttons. It was so cute.

google yields great results

Awhile back I wanted a tattoo of a lion with octopus tentacles for its mane because I'm a Leo and I love the number eight. My brother was too lazy to draw it for me, so I Googled 'lion octopus' and this amazing creation was brought to my attention.

And because I love this fine illustration so much, I'm leaving it up while I'll be away in Los Angeles and San Diego! See you in a week, dudes.

Knotted up this skinny scarf in the car on the way to eat sushi. Spur of the moment creations are always the best. After sushi I felt like making jewelry so I laid my findings out and put this necklace together for Sasha. First time using actual tools! All necklaces before that were forcibly linked and knotted haphazardly together when chains were lying around. It was not good for my nails.

Summer was nice and lazy, so having to do lists makes me feel productive.
Though I'll probably be biting my tongue in a few weeks.

Also just realized that was my last full Hawai'i summer I might get in awhile.
