This video, narrated by Tim Gunn, is disturbing and will make you feel queasy, but it is something that everyone should see, whether they are for or against fur.
For those of us, myself included, who are so obsessed with fashion, there is often a huge disconnect between what happens at the factory and the final product we gush over. The ethical argument is obvious, but the personal argument is where it gets tricky. For businesses and individuals that need fur, I guess you gotta do what you gotta do... but at what and who's cost? I can understand if it's a matter of survival, but when it comes to down to wanting to wear fur for aesthetic purposes, ick, I don't understand.
To my readers and the passerbys that wear fur, I think no less of you, nor will I preach to you why you shouldn't wear fur. If you want a reason to wear fur, read this article by AA Gill.
Thoughts? Reactions? Rants? I wanna hear it!

it's disturbing indeed...now i think perhaps i should stop eating meat. wearing fur is considered a "luxury," having meat is more and less a "necessity," but the execution method can be equally cruel eh?
Ugh, this isn't the first time I've seen one of these videos. They break my heart every time. I absolutely cannot bear the thought of wearing fur, even vintage. But you're right; there is a major disconnect between factory and consumer. It is surely something to be aware of.
I have never supported fur simply because of how it is obtained and the inhumane practices in the industry. I will admit that I do view people who wear fur in a different way. I just cannot fathom why they would want to wear it.
Annie- Yup, whether you want to wear its fur or eat its meat, the killing is done pretty much the same. And going veggie is a great start!
Allie- I'm with you on the vintage fur too! Leather is another story though... I try my hardest not to buy it and if I do it's usually vintage.
Farren- So true! I try not to judge people, but I really wonder what goes on inside the heads of Mary Kate or Carine or Rachel Zoe. I don't think wearing fur makes you a bad person, we just have different ways of approaching life. :)
i don't think i can watch it... id think of mia.. ahhh.. im allergic to fur so its a no go for me...
...lucy...
You should've posted a warning before the video! I was incredibly shocked and grossed out. I really will think twice next time I buy leather or any other animal products.
I had to stop midway because I couldn't watch.
I'm not for or against and I can't really make a decision either way. I agree that there are alternatives to fur, but then aren't some of those alternatives just going to end up synthetic. And, are the synthetic alternatives hazards to the environment? I think of nylon and polyester and dye as examples. Vicious cycle.
I agree though, very, very disturbing and inhumane. Cringe face.
Cakemaster- Sorry! I did say it was disturbing. Should've mentioned it was very graphic. Sorry if I made you lose your appetite! :/
donna - It is indeed a vicious cycle... everything has it's down side :(
