consumeconsumeconsume

Why do I wantwantwant so much, so often?

Why do I even love fashion?

Why do you love fashion?

Because I can't wrap my head around this.
And I hate that I'm so concerned about what I wear.

And here I am posting a $1,724 ring.
It is fucking cool though.

Sigh.

Holy smokes. Unreal!

Let's just say I'm a product of the consumerist, capitalist, victim of advertisment percentage of the population. I could give you the run around of "fashion is expression" blah blah blah. But honestly, I'm in a business where your image is a definite part of the package.

May- It is, huh? I love big rings and dinosaurs, so this is heaven! The price tag is wayyyyy out of reach though.

Hot Bot- I could argue that side also, but what I present to the world is important to me, too. :X

AusAnna- Ack, I know! Hopefully this will situation will squeeze out new creative juices from every side of this industry, from design, textiles, business, ads, etc.

That is such an insane ring! >< Hmm not that big a fan of it especially after seeing the price.

I don't know some times I feel fashion is incredible - the adrenaline rush it give one, the feeling of being empowered, being able to express oneself... Yet at other times I feel it's such an insane industry which fuels greed and dissatisfaction in people. And I don't know how to get out of it myself too. Nor am I sure if I want to get out of it ever too.

ahh the eternal question rears it's head! to be honest most of what i wear and own is just clothes, disposable and consumer capitalist driven, but for me i think the aim is to reach a level where the way i dress is art. that probably sounds like crap! some people can do it instinctively i think, i'm not there at all, not even close but i think the thing is to try take what you want from it, say inspiration and ideas of beauty, but not become consumed by the rest.

hmmm, i'm probably going to regret posting this!

I wish I could do one of my big rings for such a low price! What is this one made of? My gold ones cost more to make than this is selling for. Sigh.

tis serendipity- Feel the same way, too!

Becoming Fearless- Thanks for being honest and sharing! :)

WendyB- The site says large hollow silver ring with gold plate. And I had no idea it costs that much to make those big rings! I love chunky rings, but the ones I buy are all under $50 from little artsy stores or vintage places.

you have love and creativity for fashion... others have it for numbers or gismos and gadgets..

fashion is you passion... why knock it?? embrace it... i bet you at school there are people who silently envy you for you style, creativity, and determination...

I do ask myself that often these days too, fashion is so damn materialistic, I hate its a trend to judge everyone by the cover... that ring is badass though.

miss d- :))))))

Alice X- Yup, I think too much about stuff like this. I should just go with the flow.... sometimes knowing too much is my problem! :)

Shini- I think we've judged people by their appearance farrr too long to reverse it. It is sad though. I try to see the good in everyone no matter what!

I do love that ring.
I love fashion as a form of personal expression and art. Also, you have to get dressed anyway--why not wear clothes you actually love?
It doesn't mean you have to over-consume though, remixing clothes is also an art.

Ah ha! Hollow silver explains it. Phew. I assumed it was solid and was freaking out!

I often ask myself these same questions. I go through stages where I think why the hell do I have a blog focused on such materialistic bullshit? I've contemplated deleting my blog so many times.
I guess I just try to think of it as not loving 'fashion' but more as having admiration for all forms of art.
In the end, fashion is JUST A HOBBY for me, because there are so many more things in my life that are important to me than how good I look.

The Clothes Horse - Good point! Make it fun if you gotta do it! :)

Wendy - You should go make some hollow dino rings! ;)

Laura - Nice!

oh why must you say it? 1724 doesn't even sound comprehendible for a silver ring. Gorgeous. As long as you are not too careful with what you wear it's all good.
