My Brother

My little brother Caleb draws.

He's about to graduate from high school and has to start thinking about what he wants to do. Others say to go into fields that need people or make good money. I tell him to do what he's passionate about.

How funny, I just deleted a post that was supposed to be about that same principle.

I actually went to Mid-Pac, but I did go to Moanalua Elementary. Surfriders baby!

I love your brother's drawings, so quirky and imaginative! And he's lucky to have such a wise sister, because doing what you're passionate about is so much more important than making great money. Hope he takes your advice and does what he loves to do! :)

And thanks for commenting on my blog and sharing your thoughts! As to homeschooling, I've been homeschooled part of my life, myself, and I think I performed better academically for it, and had more fun! :P So I think homeschooling your kids some day would be definately be a good idea to consider! :)

Wow your brother's drawings! He should DEFINITELY do what he wants to do, not because someone told him to do it. He'll only regret it later!

I'd say he could do many things with his art. T-shirts, graphic design, graphic novels, etc.

I hope he goes with what makes him happy.

you're brother looks to be incredibly talented. Does he know about blood is the new black? it is a t-shirt company which does amazing new and up-and-coming artist collaborations... he should check it out!

i am personally of the opinion that one should choose their own path in life. I am only 16, but i hope that i can be lucky enough to have those types of options in life :)

How great is this drawing. Take it from me, please. Tell him to do what he loves and is passionate about. The money thing, while a realistic and weighty factor, without much more cannot sustain a long life (of many, many work days potentially full of boredom, dread, and "what if" thoughts). Of course, he will and should follow his own path. BUT that pressure to be "stable" or "successful" (whatever that means) can be so strong, particularly at that age.

OH, and he should definitely contact Blood is the New Black. We carry their shirts (love them). They are based out of LA and work with emerging artists.

hi! thanks for visiting my site! :)

your brother is really talented. and he can work in a field he's passionate about AND make money. all my friends who came out of art school (graphic designers, illustrators, etc) make way over 6 figures. and jobs are always in demand.

If I could go back and talk to the 18 year old me I'd say exactly the same thing. Judging from his talents I'd say design, but general art school might be a good idea too.
