Prada vs. Business Bibs

Prada Fall 2008 / Business Bibs

Contrasting Plackets, Dusty Colors, Egypt

(Abaete / Rag & Bone)

(Alexander Wang / Daughters by Obedient Sons)

I'm really glad Alexander Wang added some softer elements to his collection.

And these just because of it's Egypt references!

(Vena Cava)

Just a note- these aren't my trend predictions. I tend to stick with what I like (a little too much sometimes) and end up with multiples of things, hence me finding more than one thing of the same thing, often in pairs.

Also:
Cuffs at Alexander Wang
Seriously sublime textiles at ThreeAsFour
Shoes at Réyes
Bow dress at United Bamboo
This look seems so familiar... ?
Ew, camel toe at Rock & Republic
High, messy buns at Jenni Kayne
Hats at Jason Wu
Yay, suspenders on girls!

Sari-ish?

Is it just me or are some of Réyes' drapey stuff reminiscent of the way saris are worn?

Me Likey

Rachel Comey & Jenni Kayne

You already know I have a thing for primary colors (1, 2), but when you take away the red and are left with bright yellow and dark blue, I'm just as happy. Like right now an outfit on heavy rotation is my loose denim top and yellow cardigan. I wish I could wear it everyday.

Also, I never paid too much attention to BCBG before, but when did they start making such pretty fluid things? Like this and this. I wish I had somewhere to wear these things. Oh, and the money to buy them!

[edit] New York Times has an awesome feature where you can get a closer look at the goods more than Style.com's new full screen slideshow. So close I saw a loose thread dangling.

[edit] I just went over to White Lightning, and we totally posted the same shiz, but she did it well before I did. Damn that Hawaii Standard Time.

Lorick Spring 2009 Presentation

Fashion week(s) is(are) under way.
I know you can get all the pictures and reviews elsewhere, but I can't help but write about Lorick's Spring 2009 presentation.

Though the the actual clothes get a little lost amongst all the books and mattresses, I love the mood each set has created.

Presentations always seem more intimate and fun to me. Sure, runway shows can get creative (simultaneous rock concert or a larger than life carousel), but I love how a presentation gives you the clothes and the mood and just let's it marinate in front of you.

Yes, I care about the environment.

No, I do not want to talk to you about it.

The Wittle Things

That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest.
-Henry David Thoreau

This Real Simple Daily Thought was in my inbox when I got back from my relaxing two hour walk this morning.

Whenever I'm walking I always find pleasure in the randomest things. For instance, there's a stream that I pass over and last week there was an overturned grocery cart in it that I thought looked really beautiful. Today, I made sure to walk by it again to see if it was still there, and much to my delight, there were two! TWO!! That made me smile even more.

Yeah, I'm a little different. Or as my best friend's new guy said, "She has a lot of personality." I think what he really meant was, "She is fucking weird."

Wonderful

More Fluff

Less stuff.
Sorry.
I'm lazy.
And just want to post fluff I like.
Thank you for reading me.

Insert Your Superhero Name Here

We say "secret identity," and adopt a series of cloaking strategies to preserve it; but what we are actually trying to conceal is a narrative; not who we are, but the story of how we got that way - and by implication, of all that we lacked, and all that we were not, before the spider bit us. And yet at the same time, as I have suggested, our costume conceals nothing, reveals everything: it is our secret skin, exposed and exposing us for all the world to see. Superheroism is a kind of transvestism; our superdrag serves at once to obscure the exterior self that no longer defines us while betraying with half-unconscious panache, the truth of the story we carry in our hearts, the story of our transformation, of our story's recommencement, of our rebirth into the world of adventure, of the story itself.
